Beautiful Western Uganda
Western Uganda offers deep rainforests and high mountains, rolling green hills, vast savanna, beautiful lakes, a uniquely rich animal and birdlife, and not least gorillas - the friendly giant of the forest! This tour proposal is for inspiration, and can be adapted to your wishes.
Day 1 - arrival Entebbe
After a long flight, you arrive in Entebbe, Uganda's first capital, which today is a quiet city on the shores of Lake Victoria. Here you can spend the day relaxing, or choose from various activities such as a guided walking or cycling tour of the city, a visit to the botanical garden, a visit to the reptile park, a walk along the beach or a boat trip on Lake Victoria!
Day 2- to Fort Portal
The tour departs from Entebbe to Fort Portal, a small town located close to Kibale Forest and the Rwenzori Mountains. On the way you drive through Kibale, and if you're lucky you'll see chimpanzees or other monkeys. After a good lunch at the lodge where you will stay, it's time to move around a bit. Together with a local guide, you join a coffee tour, where you follow the process from planting to harvesting, to finished coffee. And of course, the trip ends with a cup of good, undisturbed coffee!
Day 3- The hot springs of the Rwenzori Mountains
The Rwenzori Mountains are a mountain range in the far west of Uganda. Here you will find five of Africa's ten highest mountain peaks! Today we are not going to the top, but join local well-known guides to hot springs a little higher up in the mountain. The trip up takes about two hours. At the top you can enjoy the view, and bathe in both hot springs and ice-cold melt water. The tour goes through small villages where you get close to daily life.
Day 4- meet the chimpanzees in Kibale Forest
Kibale Forest National Park is one of the very best places in the world where you can experience chimpanzees in their natural habitat. There are approximately 1,500 chimpanzees in the national park, as well as 12 other species of primates, and a rich bird life. The trip usually takes 2-3 hours, depending on how long you have to walk before you meet the chimpanzees. In the afternoon you drive to Lake Mamba for a trip in a traditional Ugandan canoe.
Day 5 - boat safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park
After a delicious breakfast, the trip continues to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is the most visited of Uganda's national parks. In the afternoon there will be a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. Here there are good chances of seeing elephants, hippos, crocodiles, waterbuck and many other animals, small and large. For the birdwatcher, Queen Elizabeth is an eldorado, with as many as 600 different species of birds, and many of them you can see on the boat safari!
Day 6 - safari
This day is spent on safari by car. Together with skilled guides, you get to experience the park, and the chances are good to see lions, leopards, elephants, warthogs, hyenas, lots of antelopes, a unique birdlife - and also many smaller animals that may not be so familiar to most people!
Day 7- to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
After a quiet morning, you drive through breathtakingly beautiful scenery to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. This is a trip of 5-6 hours without stopping, but we recommend taking plenty of time so you can really enjoy the view, and maybe buy what must be the world's best bananas from local farmers along the way?
Day 8 - meeting with gorillas
To experience the mountain gorillas up close is something many dream of, and Bwindi is one of the very best places to fulfill this dream! On gorilla trekking, you are part of a small group that, together with experienced game wardens, goes into the forest to see the gorillas. How far you have to go before you get to the gorillas varies from day to day, and when you find them, you can be with these magnificent animals for an hour. In the afternoon, the trip continues to Lake Bunyonyi.
Day 9 Relax at Lake Bunyonyi
After many busy days, it's time to relax by beautiful Lake Bunyonyi.
Here you can enjoy the silence and the birdsong - Bunyonyi is known as the place with many small birds.
Day 10 Explore Lake Bunyonyi
The second day at Lake Bunyonyi can be used for more relaxation, and for those who want more activity, there are good opportunities for short and long trips, canoeing, swimming, zip-line and more.
Day 11 To Kigali
The Uganda adventure is almost over, and today the trip goes to Rwanda and the capital, Kigali. This is a trip of about 3 hours, and then it takes some time in immigration at the border. Once in Kigali, you can get a guided walk, or a food tour to explore Rwandan cuisine!
Day 12 - journey home
Return journey from Kigali international airport. If the departure is in the evening, there are many exciting things to experience in Kigali, such as markets, milk bars, museums and art galleries.
